"May 5, 2016 When you see a police escort motorcade it’s for a funeral and many times those funerals are for young kids whose lives are taken by gun violence.... However on Saturday, April 30, 60 youth were treated like dignitaries, having a police escort motorcade that shut down traffic on Interstate-95.
The students arrived at Joe’s Stone Crab to a blue carpet and lines of people praising them for being good students.
The effort was organized by a group of business people and professionals who wanted to show students they can live a positive life and that their circumstances do not define them. Florida Criminal Lawyer Mr. Larry Handfield, head of Handfield Law firm, led the charge of business people who sponsored the five-course dinner.
Terry Wright from Wright & Young Funeral Home, Bridget McKinney from Professionals Sharing with a Purpose and Miami Gardens Police Chief Antonio Brooklen were all a part of the team of people who helped make the day a success.
Students dined on Joe’s famous stone crabs, many of whom were having them for the first time. During the event, mentors spoke to the students about staying on the right path. The students were overwhelmed by the experience, many of whom said they had never been to the restaurant before and had never been treated that way.
Miami Criminal Lawyer Mr, Handfield hopes to continue the event annually and encourages other business leaders and professionals to contribute to the movement."
